Dr. Montessori created the four planes of development after extensive research and observation of the development of children. She concluded that development does not occur in a steady ascent, but instead in a series of formative planes.
The four planes of development are divided into Infancy, Childhood, Adolescence, and Adulthood (Maturity). Each of the four planes of development is marked with specific characteristics as well as certain needs and sensitivities. Such characteristics, needs, and sensitivities differ greatly from one plane to the next; each establishes the basis for the curriculum and approach at each level at Five Oaks Academy.
